Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy -

A special kind of heart muscle disease, characterized by an abnormal thickening of the heart muscle, that can lead to heart failure or dangerous cardiac arrhythmias.  Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is often genetic in origin, and tends to run in families.

Also referred to as Idiopathic Hypertrophic Subaortic Stenosis, IHSS, or asymmetric septal hypertrophy
