Description: a usually gradual deficit in short-term and/or long-term memory

Some causes related to cardiovascular disease: Memory loss is rarely caused by cardiovascular disease. Multiple strokes can produce this problem.

Some causes related to other disorders: Multiple non-cardiovascular causes exist, including depression, vitamin deficiencies, liver disease, kidney disease, endocrine diseases (including thyroid), head trauma, infections of the central nervous system, cancer, vasculitis, Alzheimer's, and many others.

Significance: Memory loss is a significant symptom, and always deserves a complete medical evaluation.
