Where are the clinical trials?
- I too developed strange side effects - numbness, vision and hearing problems, labored breathing - the strangest being 4 nights insomnia with nightmares but an energetic feeling while being up almost all the time - indeed a mighty drug. My cabg operation was extremely long and difficult with very thick plaque and deposits so my surgeon had to use the most effective drug. My heart goes out to all those who were lethally blindsided and their families.

Almost died
- I was given Amiodarone after a heart valve surgery. I was coming along fine in my recovery until I was put on that drug. I felt like I was headed for the grave. I literally begged the doctor to take me off of it. He did and I went back to recovering again. It acted like a poison. I could hardly move.

Freda
- I had an ablation which caused a one degree heart block and was told that I did not need to take amiodarone anymore. For some time, I kept getting arrhythmia but the doctor did not believe me. I begged for a Holter monitor but he refused. I eventually got diagnosed with atrial fibrillation by an emergency doctor. I have got along reasonably well. I avoid Splenda, wine& beer. My Afib is paroxymal so I usually come out of it on my own. I sometimes chew 25 mg. of metoprolol which usually brings the rate down. Recently, I have had serious trouble with PVCs which cause chest pain or AF. Magnesium IV helps, but one has to pay for them at the naturopath. It is indeed difficult to navigate the medical system.

AMEO TOXICITY
- My Brother was perscribed Ameo 400mg/day for 11 months when he was extremely short of breath and went to the hospital, 60 days later within 24 hrs of dying, he had a double lung transplant that so far has saved his life. Luckely he read about the terrible effects of ameo on the internet and took matters into his own hands. He lives very close to Presby Hospital in Pitts., Pa and spent 90 days in the hospital. No one had ever seen a case of lung toxicity move through a person so quickly. The Dr that put him on ameo never checked to see if there were any side effects even though my brother complained about shortness of breath. This is a horrible way to die as your lungs harden and you slowely suffucate even on a ventilator. Make sure you get your liver, kidneys and lungs checked monthly or sooner.

So far, so good
- I've been taking Amiodarone for five months. Initial side effects like shakiness settled out after a few months. Started on 400 mg and dropped to 200mg. Also taking 200 mg Metoprolal and 25mg of Hydralizine. TSH (thyroid) is low. Getting that checked in a couple of weeks. Cardioversion effect lasted about two months. If you guys hadn't scared the hell out of me, I wouldn't know there was anything to be scared of.

SIDE EFFECTS OF AMIODARONE
- I was only on amiodarone for two months and then I had an ablation and went off of the amiodarone. The amiodarone gave me Parkinson symptoms which did not leave for six months. Fortunately I am still off of it.

blindnees lung thyroid
- Check out lawsuits and info on the damage caused by amiodarone. It ruins lungs causing irriversable damage causing death. Google the sportscaster dick schapp ended up killing him with his family winning a lawsuit. Poisons thyroids and can cause immediate blindness without warning. Its too toxic to poison rats. Doctors prescribe it without even knowing all the side effects and I guarantee wouldn't take it themselves. There are safer alternatives! Amiodarone is only supposed to be uses as a drug of last resort. Its just a quick easy fix doctors use to make their job easier. DON'T USE IT!

Placed on Amiodarone by Mayo Hospital
- Long history of AF, an ablation was done about 2007, with good results. In June 2009 triple bypass surgery interferred with the ablation resulting in the return of AF. Mayo Hospital Phoenix put me on Amiodarone. Started developing side effects with the thyroid. Attending doctor, not from Mayo was asked several times about doing another ablation to get me off this medication. After about one and one half years on medication more side effects were noticed and again the doctor would not alter treatment so I took myself off this medication. Shortly after that I lost the sight in the left eye, and have developed problems with my lungs. I now question why this medication is allowed on the market.

Last ditch
- I have mitral valve stenosis and a 11 history with afib. I was on 400 milligrams of Flecanide for 9 years. I went into afib in 2009 and amiodrone did not work until I had an heart ablation. I was on a dose of 100 mg amiodrone for 4 months after the ablation. Three months after I was taken off the drug I was back in the hospital with Congestive heart failure and afib. It took 5 months to get me back in rhythmn. When I am in afib I have difficulty breathing and everything is difficult. I know immediately when I am out of rhythmn. I am doing much better for the last 9 months. The last two EKG look better than they have in the last 4 years. A doctor once said that this drug is where science meets magic. Using the drug scares me but I know the other side. So far no apparent damage has been done. It is essential to have regular checks.
