How good is your hospital at managing cardiac problems?

The US Department of Health and Human Services recently launched a website to help you find out.

The website, Hospital Compare, allows you to view various quality measures on how well doctors working in specific hospitals are managing patients who have myocardial infarctions (heart attacks) and heart failure (as well as pneumonia,) and compares their performance to other hospitals in your region and across the country. The site does not give information on individual doctors, but shows you how the "aggregate" of doctors who manage these conditions are performing in your hospital.

The site also provides information on your rights as a patient, and on the Health Quality Alliance, a collaborative organization that compiled the data appearing on this site.

The Hospital Compare website is: http://www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov/.
