After a Heart Attack

Table of Contents

It was a just a short walk to the station. But mid-way, the pain in his chest seemed to worsen. John stopped short in his tracks, sweaty and pale, feeling cold all over.

The pain was now severe, a live thing, like nothing he had ever experienced in his life before. His chest seemed to be gripped in a huge vise, crushing him. A heavy weight descended upon him. Unable to bear the pain any longer, he collapsed to the ground.

Mr.John Doe is 53 years old, a marketing executive who lives a hard, fast-paced life. He smokes heavily, is overweight, exercises rarely if ever and is diabetic. At the company's last medical review, his serum cholesterol levels were high. His father had died of a heart attack, as had his uncle and grandpa.

But John always told himself it couldn't happen to him. Unfortunately, it just did.

John was having a heart attack.

As John's care-giver (friend, spouse or other family member), you are panic-stricken. Naturally.

This account of life after a Heart Attack is intended for you, as much as it is for John. I'll take you through the sequence of events day by day, and later, week by week. To help you understand what John is going through, what he and you should now do to control the damage and prevent it ever happening again.
