Heart Disease In The News Oxidized LDL cholesterol levels may predict heart
attacks Blood levels of a form of LDL cholesterol - oxidized LDL - may predict the severity of heart disease, according to the latest issue of Circulation. Investigators from Osaka, Japan report that patients with high blood levels of oxidized LDL cholesterol have a significantly higher risk of heart attacks than patients with unoxidized LDL. If their results are reproduced in larger studies, measuring oxidized LDL levels may help doctors detect high-risk patients for early treatment. Measurement of oxidized LDL levels is an investigational tool that, so far, is not available for routing clinical testing |
