Heart Disease In The News Damaged rabbit heart reversed with gene therapy In the latest edition of Circulation, investigators from Duke University report that they were able deliver gene therapy to the damaged hearts of rabbits, and that the gene therapy reversed heart muscle damage. This research is important from two aspects. First, the investigators have now found a relatively noninvasive method for delivering genes to heart muscle. Second, they have identified a gene that seems to benefit damaged hearts. The Duke investigators estimate that their technique may be ready for human testing within three years. |
