Heart Disease In The News Obesity is becoming a worldwide epidemic A recent report from the Worldwatch Institute calls obesity a growing worldwide epidemic, and points to the United States as an example of what the rest of the world can expect, as processed foods and a sedentary lifestyle assert themselves on other countries. About 300,000 people in the U.S. die each year from obesity related diseases, and while dietary changes have been blamed for an increasingly obese U.S. society, an increasing lack of exercise is now coming to be seen as a major cause. As modern conveniences and modern problems reach other nations, obesity is also spreading. The Institute's report attempts to call attention to the association between civilization's growing sedentary lifestyle and the growing epidemic of obesity-related disease. |
