Immediate statin use after heart attack reduces death
January 25, 2001

A Swedish study published this week in the Journal of the American Medical Association again lends credence to the early use of statin drugs after heart attacks.

In this study, heart attack patients with elevated cholesterol levels who were placed on statins prior to their hospital discharge experienced a 25% reduction in mortality over the next 12 months, compared to similar patients not treated with statins.

This study confirms earlier data supporting the immediate use of statin drugs after heart attacks.
