A Drink a Day Lowers Women's Risk of Stroke

For the first time, a study has shown that consuming one or two drinks of alcohol per day (especially wine) reduces the risk of stroke in young women.  The study, published this month in Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association was a survey conducted among 600 women between 15 and 44 years of age, and included over 200 women who had suffered from a stroke.  The women who had consumed an average of 2 drinks of alcohol per day in the week prior to being surveyed, had a 60% lower risk of stroke.  

Prior studies had shown similar results for men, and for older adults of both genders.
