Stent -

A procedure performed in conjunction with angioplasty.  After the coronary artery blockage has been treated by angioplasty, a small, expandable metal scaffold (the stent) is inserted into the artery and expanded.  The purpose of the stent is to maintain the opening created by the angioplasty, and prevent a recurrence of the blockage.
