Mitral valve -
| The cardiac valves keep the
blood moving in the right direction through the heart. The mitral valve
regulates the opening between two of the hearts four chambers the
left atrium and the left ventricle. As
the powerful left ventricle contracts (ejecting oxygen-rich blood
throughout the body), the mitral valve closes, thereby preventing a
backwash of blood ("regurgitation") into the left atrium. |
