Defibrillator -

An device that delivers an electrical shock to the heart in order to stop certain forms of rapid heart rhythm disturbances.  Defibrillators can be implanted like a pacemaker in certain patients, so that dangerous cardiac arrhythmias can be terminated immediately and automatically.
