Atrium -

The heart has four chambers, two atria and two ventricles.  The right atrium and left atrium collect the blood that is returning to the heart.  The left atrium collects blood returning to the heart from the lungs; the right atrium collects the blood returning to the heart from the rest of the body.  At the appropriate moment, the right and left atria contract, ejecting the blood they have collected into the right and left ventricles, respectively.
