Aortic valve -

The cardiac valves keep the blood moving in the right direction through the heart. The aortic valve regulates the opening between the left ventricle and the aorta. As the left ventricle contracts, the aortic valve opens, allowing blood to eject into the aorta.  When the ventricle is finished beating, the aortic valve closes, thereby preventing a backwash of blood ("regurgitation") into the left left ventricle.
