Member Profiles SAM My son Thomas is 7 years old. He was diagnosed with transposition of great arteries,
VSD & pulmonary stenosis at 1 day old. Since then he has had various operations. His first one a Blalock
Taussig shunt at 2 months old then 2
balloon septostomys at 3 and 4 months old, then a 2nd BT shunt at 2years and a Rastelli procedure (open heart) at 4 1/2 years. He spent the first 4 1/2 years of his life blue and tired but after the
Rastelli he has been pink with oxygen sats around 95%. We are told he will need more surgery to replace the conduit but time will only tell when it will be needed. In the meantime we are making the most of having a normal child that gets hungry and wants to go swimming and play football. Thomas is very skinny but growing fast and fairly healthy for the time being which is great. Join Sam and the rest of us in the Heart Disease Forum:
