Thank God I'm a runner. If I wasn't I would have never detected my problem. I had recently noticed my endurance level going down as I could not longer complete my long runs. I had dropped off three miles for no good reason and had noticed a slight, and I do mean slight, discomfort in my chest after running about 1 mile. I went to my family doctor and explained what I was experiencing and was referred to a cardiologist. I was given a cardiolight test and was deemed to be normal--in fact in excellent shape. I then ran 4 miles that afternoon and was pushing all the way. I called my family doctor and he had the cardiologist perform a angiogram and they found five blockages one of which is in a area that would have caused certain death in the event of a heart attack. Thank God my family doctor listens to me. I wear a heart monitor when I run and had noticed my heartbeat was also up about 10bpm at the same exercise level. My moral: listen to your body and get che! cked if you suspect something is going wrong. Don't accept the result of a stress test as gospel. I am currently scheduling my surgery.
