topic: No Problems? Ha.

Hey all: I'm retired Federal Governmant and we split our time between Connecticut and Germany. I am also retired Navy so get the use of medical facilities wherever they exist. When we ar at home in Germany I use the Army Hospital at Landstuhl. I had an angioplasty back in 1991 and had no problems with that after. In May of 1993 we were spending a week in a small Italian village in the Dolomites. I would walk into the village ever morning for bread and the walk in included a very slight incline. I noticed that afer a few minutes I would get an ache on the right side of my throat. We walked mountains, hiked all over the place, even took a cable car up a 9,000ft mountain and walked back down. All this time I was bugged by this ache in my throat. I kinda chalked it up to something muscular. When we got back to Germany, I went to Landstuhl and saw my Internist. They had me run thru ECG;s, stress tests and the result was that they found my heart to be normal and I was considered fit and I could carry on my normal routines..We came back to the states in August of 93 to take my turn at caring for my ailing mother for 4 months. Immediately on arrival I went to see my doctor here and she listened to my symptom of achbing throat and immediately sent me for a nuclear stress test which showed 96%, 78% and 68% blockages and was immediately sent to Hartford Hospital for a triple bypass. When I came out of it, I asked why this wasn't picked up at Landstuhl and he said that normal ECG's and stress tests will NOT necessarily show blockages and that only the nuclerar test was the definitive one. And here I was, hiking, mountain climbing, etc. A heart attack waiting to happen. So, now I stress the nuclear test to my friends that have minor problems and only do the routine tests! It has been 2 years since my operation and I was OK's last week after a follow up nuke test. My only problem is that I am tired a lot, probably a combination of Xanax, Lisinopril, etc...
