First Hand Experience

I am writing to express the importance of CPR training. My fiancee, her sister, father and I went out to get one last day of waterskiing in before our wedding which was exactly one week away. My father-in-law to be is an avid waterskier even at 60. After his run we saw that he had passed out halfway back into the boat. When we turned him over we knew something was very wrong. He was gasping for breathe and his eyes were wide and rolling back. We did not know it at the time but he was apparently suffering a ventricular fibrillation. We had him on his back in the boat were heading to shore and had reached 911 within a minute or two.
Once we beached the boat we were better able to assess the situation. We no longer could find a pulse and his breathing had ceased. His daughter immediately began CPR. After two or three rounds of CPR he started to breathe on his own, and after another few minutes he was able to respond to us verbally. He is now in the ICU and 3 days after the incident is having a pace maker and possibly a defibrillator put in. (Actually he is undergoing the procedure as I write this) The Doctor's say that he will be at the wedding which is only 4 days away. They also told us that in cases of VF early recognition is key, and in the absence of a defibrillator CPR is a must. His daughter quite possible saved his life and allowed him to live to see his other daughter get married.
You never know when you may be in this situation. CPR training is invaluable !!!!!
