Hello to anyone reading this - if you know what
multifocal artial tachycardia is then keep reading and if you don't and are
interested......keep reading......
After battling the health system to have someone LISTEN to my symptoms and
actually take the initiative to say that something is wrong and its not that i
am just "not taking my meds". For five years i battled with doctors telling me i
had high blood pressure and tachycardia and it was my own fault because i wasn't
taking my medications a new GP finally sent me to the hospital where i just
started working as a cardiology nurse.......its here i had my heart monitored on
continuous ambulatory ECG machines.....the discovered i had "MULTIFOCAL ATRIAL
TACHYCARDIA" They finally took notice and told me there actually was something
wrong.....the only thing is that it would never have been picked up because my
resting heart rate is normal - its when i get up and walk around that my heart
rate doubles and sometimes gets to near tripling its resting rate! They have
tried treating me with Beta Blockers which has proved a mission as they cause
shortness of breath and i already have asthma. !
My cardiologist is adamant the answer to a
better life for me is a pacemaker! He has never seen anyone with this problem
and they even wonder if they have found an undiagnosed medical condition (at
least they know how special i really am now!). Medication is lowering resting
heart rate but NOT my ambulatory heart rate.......
My specialist doesn't specialize in electrophysiology so he has had to refer me
on.
I am 24 and because of my job, my age and my asthma they electrophysiologists
are not too keen to ablate my AV node and insert a pacemaker (my AV node is
normal. They are talking to people all over the country where i live (New
Zealand), about my case and i am to wait until they get back to me which is very
frustrating when they are adamant in telling me that my best chance at a better
quality of life is to have the procedure......without the procedure they are
almost guaranteeing my future will include cardiomyopathy and heart
failure......they told me all this, and i know it also as a nurse......
If anyone knows much about multifocal atrial tachycardia and treatment options
please contact me at: nursey_wersey@yahoo.com, especially if you have sound
medical background or knowledge.....
Regards
Emma
