ED EVANS

I have a terrible family history. My father had 4 heart attacks in the 50's and 60's before dying at age 47 in 1963. My older brother died at age 46 of a massive heart attack in early 1988. My mother passed in November 1988 of a major heart attack.

I had all the tests and an annual physical and, in 1990 had a heart attack at age 47. I had an angioplasty in 1990 and another one in early 1991. In August 1991, after the second angioplasty closed, I had triple by-pass surgery at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. I have had no major problems since because I did listen to the doctors. I watch what I eat, exercise regularly and really try to reduce the stress in my life.

While I cannot escape the genes that were handed to me, I can make a difference by the lifestyle I maintain. I am going for my annual physical next month, almost 10 years after the surgery.
