I am a male who is 59 years old. I had a heart
attack when I was 39 years old and the only thing they did was give me
medication. I had a cadence icd in 1994. I went into chf and died in the er for
over 2 minutes. Got shocked alot because of problems of medications. I had 2
radio frequency catheter ablations which I liked and I feel they have helped me.
I got my second icd in the summer of 1998. I also received a pacemaker that
summer. Everything went fine.
Last summer after 5 years I got another icd. My doctor skipped the country about
a month later and only gave his practice 2 hours notice. I am fortunate that I
live in the Chicago metropolitan area and was able to find another one. I found
out a few months later that my leads were not in right and had to have an
operation on 12/31/03. They could not do anything, so on 1/7/04 I went to
another hospital and he put in a subcutaneous lead to icd and will do more
later. On 2/4/04, they took out both my pacemaker and icd and put in a medtronic
insync icd. They put some new leads and capped others. I feel great after the 7
hour operation and only limitation I have is I cannot drive for 2 weeks and
cannot raise my arm over my head for 2 weeks.
I belong to a support group in the area and also belong to a support group on
aol, so if anyone is interested, feel free to write me.
I think the best medicine is pma (positive mental attitude) I would be glad to
talk to anyone about my experiences and would be glad to talk to others.
Thanks
Doug
