CHRISTIN DISLER

Dear Doctors & Friends,
My husband is a very young and extremely healthy 36 years old, currently under the care of a cardiologist, has an appointment with a neurologist this week, and we (us and the Dr's thus far) are completely perplexed by his condition. 7 weeks ago we were in sitting in church and all of a sudden with no warning he told me he was going to pass out, he tried to stop this by putting his head between his legs but that wasn't working so he went to lay his head on my shoulder he grabbed his chest and passed out cold, he made this awful snoring sound and went into what appeared to be some type of convulsion, he then was totally out with his eyes wide open, skin pale, blue lips, but no responses to anything, no eye movement or response to voice or stimuli, with help he was carried into another room where he came back to with the assistance of a Dr. who happened to be there, his pulse was very weak, and he was really slow in responding to any questions, he was weak and his extremities were ice cold. 911 was called immediately as he was being carried into the other room and responded quite quickly, they hooked him to a heart monitor and transported him to the ER where they also hooked him up to a monitor, took blood, and eventually after about an hour of observation released him with an appointment with the cardiologist he is now seeing. He has had a stress test, an echocardiogram, and been hooked up to an EKG a few times for about 15 minutes or so, he was given an event monitor and recorded several times when he felt he was going to pass out, the only produced signs of anything abnormal were with the recorder of an irregular arrhythmia, he also tested extremely positive after less than 3 minutes (as the Dr. stated) on the tilt table test and was diagnosed after the first 10 days with nuerocardiagenic syncope. His symptoms the first 10 days were awful, he was unable to even sit in a seated position without feeling he was going to pass out, he was restricted from daily activities due to this but could control the symptoms he felt of his heart racing and becoming lightheaded and weak all over by lying down and elevating his feet. The cardiologist put him on 5mg of proamatine, his blood pressure sky rocketed and thought he was having a heart attack, they decreased the dosage to 2.5mg 3 times daily, he had every single side effect from the drug (which was quite severe .. even causing my mild husband to put a hole in the wall from the pain he was going through on the drug) we called the cardiologist who basically yelled at him telling him he was being a baby and insisted he continue the drug for at least 30 days if he wanted to function daily ... at her insistence and advice he continued and some of the side effects lessened but never went away.. he was miserable, in pain, and now couldn't concentrate much less function normally, went back to her last week, she was totally mystified by his reactions to this drug and took him off, he was still having effects after 8 and 9 hours following his pill, she explained that normally it should be out of his system within 3 - 4 hours and couldn't understand why his body was reacting in such a manner, she had never seen this before .. she has now prescribed him florenef and he is taking it daily for a week now, although he is able to sit up he is still having major problems in that he still doesn't feel right, he continually feels as though he may pass out, he is very fatigued, he has shortness of breath, still is very conscious of his heart, also last night had a sharp pain in the middle of his chest that took his breath away, is very irritable, and keeps getting these strange whitish-yellowish-orangish spots that appear on his arms front and back when in the sun or during any movement, the spots seem to come and go (they are not always present) and seem deep in the skin, there is no feeling to them on the surface, there is no itching or swelling, other than visually there are no other symptoms to them, it is almost like there are air pockets under the skin surface. He used to lift heavy w! eights daily, was in great physical shape, ate very healthy, never took meds (not even the occasional aspirin) other than allergy medicine once a year for about the first 3 months of Spring. We are perplexed by the sudden onset of this event that has changed his life since and still are not sure that he has been diagnosed properly. Have you come across anything like this?? Are there any diseases the cardiologist may be overlooking ?? What else can we do to get to the bottom of what is going on ?? It was only seconds before this attack that he felt totally normal, healthy, and very active, now he can hardly climb our stairs and is miserable. His normal B/P is 118/77 .. he has been everywhere on the scale now with medications from 150/102 to 110/40 ... for a while only the diastolic continued to rise, he was really whacked out as he'd describe it and could feel his heart pounding, racing, fluttering, etc .. his pulse would go anywhere from the low 60's to close to the hundred and teens. Any help, advice, etc.. would be greatly appreciated and hopefully your response will help many others. A Very Concerned Wife .......
