BRANDI SMITH

Hi, my name is Brandi Smith and I have a 3 year old daughter that has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. She is truely a miracle from God.
I found out that she had HLHS when I was pregnant. I was only 17 and never expected to have a sick child and couldn't comprehend what all these doctors were telling me that my baby was about to face. I had one doctor telling me not to do the surgery for her, in her opinion, that would be the best for me and her which is one of the options that are given to you when you find this out about your child or you can have a heart transplant, which wasnt really given to me as an option, or the three stage surgery. I didnt know what to do or how in the world I could make a decision whether or not to let my baby live or not. I thought about everything all the doctors told me and I said well if God gave some one the knowledge to fix her and let her live I was gonna do everything I could and if she didnt make it then she was meant to be with Jesus.
She had her Norwood at 2 days old. She had a hard time getting over it and feeding issues but she made it. She is a little fighter. She went through her 2nd surgery like a breeze. Her third surgery was the hardest for her to get over. She had some complications but she overcame them and she is a smart, intelligent little girl. I could never imagine going through what she has. I thank God for her every day!! I am very happy with the decision I made.
