Miscellaneous and "New" Risk
Factors
CRP
levels - are they as important as cholesterol?
More data is accumulating that CRP is an important risk factor for heart
disease, but what to do about high CRP is still unclear.
New
guidelines on CRP testing
CRP as a cardiac risk factor has created much confusion on the part of both
doctors and patients. When to test? What to do about high levels?
Some of this confusion may be alleviated by new guidelines for CRP testing
issued by the American Heart Association and the CDC. Read about these
guidelines here.
Statins and CRP
Recent evidence indicates that statin drugs - used for lowering "bad"
cholesterol levels - may also be able to reduce CRP levels, and that by doing
so, may improve the outcome of some patients with coronary artery disease.
Does
stress really cause heart disease?
It may contribute, but probably not in the way you've been led to believe.
