Description: A feeling of either general lightheadedness, or of "room spinning" vertigo
Some causes related to cardiovascular disease: The lightheaded form of dizziness can be caused by a general weakness caused by low cardiac output, low blood pressure, or cardiac arrhythmias. Vertigo is generally not caused by cardiac disease, but can be related to stroke. Some causes related to other disorders: Lightheadedness can be seen with numerous general medical problems, including diabetes, dehydration, and neurological disease. Vertigo is generally caused by an inner ear or neurological problem
Significance: Many significant medical problems can cause dizziness. This symptom, if persistent, needs to be carefully evaluated by a physician.
