Cardiologists: Stop Laughing at Restless Leg Syndrome

Friday December 26, 2008
Many cardiologists have traditionally followed the lead of Rush Limbaugh in making fun of Restless Leg Syndrome. Such Limbaugh-influenced skeptics apparently consider Restless Leg Syndrome to be one of those "boutique" medical disorders, favored by effete patients (and their doctors) who insist on elevating even trivial complaints to the status of an actual disease, presumably to enhance their status as victims and thereby to assuage their inappropriate feelings of middle-class guilt. (Admittedly, some cardiologists might not follow Mr. Limbaugh all the way to ascribing "pseudo-diseases" like Restless Leg Syndrome to liberal political sensibilities. Some may just think it's funny.)

But now, clinical evidence shows that not only is Restless Leg Syndrome a serious medical condition with a true physiologic basis, but also that sufferers may have a significantly increased risk for cardiovascular disease. It is time for smug cardiologists to wake up and smell the coffee.

Read about this clinical evidence on the significance of Restless Leg Syndrome, and why your cardiologist may need to have his/her consciousness raised, here.

Heart Disease, RLS & Anemia.

After having bypass surgery I developed RLS - just spasms while sitting watching TV - no pain - but excessive. After being treated with IV iron for anemia the first thing I realized - the very first night -no more RLS !!
