Vasovagal Syncope and the Inappropriate Diagnosis of Epilepsy
Friday August 8, 2008
Some patients with vasovagal syncope (simple fainting spells) have seizure-like muscle movements during their episodes of loss of consciousness - and mistakenly receive the diagnosis of epilepsy. The misdiagnosis of epilepsy may be more common than previously thought - read about it here.

This is exactly what is happening to my daughter! The neurologists want to not investigate and just put her on meds! They do not want to admit to or deal with any of her other symptoms. The only person on our side is her pediatrician and she is soon to lose him because she will be 18. It is very scary.
This is happening to my father-in-law as well. It went as far as taking away his license. He tried repeatly to tell doctors that it wasn’t epilepsy, but they were all pill pushers. Finally he went to see my family doctor who told him that he didn’t have epilepsy, it was vasogagal! Now he’ll be able to get his license back hopefully in a few weeks and return to work. Being wrongfully diagnoised with epilepsy can really ruin someones live in a flash, he has been fighting this for a very long time.
