Avandia Linked to Increased Risk of Heart Attacks

Today, the New England Journal of Medicine published a meta-analysis indicating that the popular diabetic drug Avandia (rosiglitazone, GlaxoSmithKline) may be associated with a significant increase in heart attacks and death. Tepid reassurances from the manufacturer, and noncommittal statements from the FDA, have left the hundreds of thousands of diabetics who are taking Avandia in a quandary.

Is the drug safe or not? And while all the scientists sort out the conflicting evidence, what are patients with diabetes and their doctors supposed to do? DrRich gives his take on this breaking story here.
