Low-fat Diet Ineffective! Is Low-carb Any Better?

The latest issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association has proponents of the classic low-fat, "heart-healthy" diet in a tizzy. In an 8 year study of over 48,000 postmenopausal women, adherence to a low-fat diet resulted in neither weight loss, nor a reduction in cardiovascular risk. While embarassed low-fat mavens scramble for an explanation, supporters of low-carb diets are feeling (but not eating) their oats. Are low-fat diets really useless?
